Setting up CREATE Youth and Children's Ministry

A Centre for Rural Training and Excellence to raise young leaders in youth and children’s ministry

The CREATE programme will see the Culm Valley Mission Community becoming a place where young leaders can be trained, and their ministries developed.

We have recruited two young people wanting to explore their vocation and to be trained in youth and children’s ministry. Will is 19 and Vicki is 21.

Will and Vicki will encourage children and young people to explore the Christian faith by supporting a broad range of activities in the primary and secondary schools across the Culm Valley Mission Community.

They will get involved with running after-school clubs, holiday clubs, special events, small groups and retreat days.

They will help with our Sunday morning provision for children and young people by supporting one session a month in each parish, and will become valued members of our church communities.

What will CREATE offer?
The CREATE programme will provide trainees with line management, mentoring and pastoral support. We will pay for them to achieve an accredited youthwork qualification and we will provide accommodation, a food budget and spending money.

Who will provide the accredited youthwork training?
South West Youth Ministries (SWYM) is one provider of Christian youthwork training. We are speaking to SWYM and other providers to see if we can offer a placement to any of their students.

Who is behind CREATE?
Over the past year Christians from Ashill, Blackborough, Bradfield, Kentisbeare, Uffculme and Willand have been developing a vision for our ministry to children and young people.
The three Parochial Church Councils (PCCs) from these villages voted unanimously to work together as a Mission Community to develop a Centre for Rural Training and Excellence to raise young leaders in youth and children’s ministry.

How will CREATE be managed?
Revd Selina Garner’s Pioneer post offers the framework to organise the gifts and skills of Christians across the Culm Valley and offer appropriate support and training for the trainees.
St Mary’s Uffculme will manage the finances for CREATE on behalf of the Mission Community.

How much is it going to cost?
It’s an exciting, challenging and BIG vision and we will need to work together to achieve it! Each trainee post will cost about £9,000 a year. We still need to raise significant funding - so get thinking about some creative fundraising ideas and talk to Selina!

We need your help!

We need people to pray, and help coordinate prayer.

Can you support this ministry financially?
We would like to invite people to buy shares in this programme. Each share costs £5 a month and when Gift Aided is worth even more. Buying one or more shares will really help us continue this work.
We hope to sell 100 shares this year!

Alternatively it would be great if you could make a one off donation, or help to organise a fundraising event.

Many people already give very generously of time and money to pay church ministry shares, to maintain and develop church buildings and to fund various activities, services and events. The funding for this project is in addition to these regular financial needs and so is greatly appreciated.

If you would like to find out more about supporting CREATE email Revd Selina Garner
