I went to Soul Survivor in the summer (a big Christian event) and they launched their version of the ‘Bible in One Year’. I think the idea of reading the whole Bible kind of scared me a bit…but all my friends were up for it so I thought ‘why not?’ Now I’m a slight perfectionist so when I say I’m going to do something…I have to do it!! So now, I read the Bible every day…I can’t say I’m always in the mood – especially when it’s a chapter or two of Leviticus, but more often than not I find God speaks to me through something I’ve read that day. Each day there is a bit to read from the Old Testament from, a bit the New Testament and then a psalm or proverb! The Soul Survivor ‘people’ also post blogs online or videos each day which helps me make sense of what I’ve just read!
I find that it’s really good to get to know more about God and more about what pleases him. But another thing I love is finding those really obscure stories that no-one would have guessed would be in the bible…and the detail it goes into. For example recently I read Judges 3 which includes a left handed man, killing a fat king (so fat the sword and handle are engulfed in his fat), then escaping out of a window and the king not being found for a while because his attendants thought he was ‘relieving himself’! See…the Bible isn’t dull!!
